League of Legends creator spotlight: Dobby

26.12.2021, 02:13

For any League of Legends fan, external sources are a necessity if you’re after enjoyable gameplay. As it stands, League is one of the most complex games on the gaming market, featuring over 150 Champions, each with at least five abilities (4 active, 1 passive), with six inventory slots you can fill with almost 200 items. And let’s not also forget about the runes – especially after Riot put a lot of emphasis on them with the rework –  and summoner spells!

I’m not good at math with its factorials and exponentiations, but I believe that all these factors combined result in millions of different unique interactions. With that in mind, it’s clear that everyone needs a guide in such a whirlpool of data. It doesn’t matter if you’re completely new or a professional player with ten years of experience – League is an everchanging sea, with Riot constantly pumping out new patches and the community finding new builds and metas.

And if you’re at sea, you need a navigator. Thankfully, here he is: meet Dobby.

Dobby

Dobby도비 is a Master-tier player from South Korea. He created his original YouTube channel in 2018 and has posted almost weekly since then. Although Dobby’s channel was exclusively in Korean at first, his analysis videos quickly grew in popularity and started attracting viewers worldwide.

As such, the passionate community members would provide subtitles for the videos in English – and not only. Unfortunately, YouTube discontinued its Community Contributions program in 2020, rendering this community effort impossible. Thankfully, Dobby realized how popular his videos are and expanded his guides with an English-based sub-channel, LoL Dobby.

There can be only one LoL Analyst

But the situation wasn’t always as peaceful. In 2020, another “competitor” for Dobby’s channel popped out, quickly gathering attention from the community and eventually surpassing Dobby’s channel in subscribers and views. Unfortunately, there was one catch – most, if not all, videos of this channel called “LoL Analyst” were actually carbon copies of the videos made multiple Korean content creators, including Dobby.

Thankfully, when the issue came to light due to a timely Reddit post, the community quickly brought down LoL Analyst’s channel with swift copyright strikes. Sadly, the faker quickly remade his channel under the name of LoL Analyst 2 (very original, by the way). Still, Dobby regained much of his long-lost fanbase he deserved that day.

Well, the guides themselves

Dobby’s content follows a simple formula, yet pulling it off requires immense game knowledge. Dobby focuses on watching the best competitive – and talented Solo Queue – players to learn their secrets and share them with the community.

Always watchful for gameplay patterns at the highest tiers of League of Legends, Dobby keeps track of the top-tier matches. His high understanding of the game’s meta allows him to discover some things an inexperienced player – and sometimes even the pros – would miss! Unlike similar YT channels that might focus on flashy outplays and big highlights, Dobby’s is all about detail.

Useful for all ranked players no matter their tier, Dobby’s guides provide tons of different info, from basic spell interactions to efficient wave manipulation and wave control. Also, if you want to keep your hand on the meta’s pulses, look no further – Dobby often compiles the latest trends seen in KR Master-Challenger queues into quick and simple-to-digest videos. Like this one:

If you’re afraid of big walls of text and tedious number crunchdowns – Dobby’s channel is the right place for you. While indeed paying a lot of attention to detail, all the videos are in a light educational format with pleasant editing and plenty of time to digest the new info. Plus, you get to see all the tips in action at the end in the form of a flashy montage.

In addition to making this top-quality YouTube content, Dobby also streams regularly on Twitch. Unfortunately, his streams are in Korean, but the language of great League of Legends gameplay is universal, so hop by if you wish to learn a new thing or two. The streamer seems to be in love with Qiyana at the moment, so if you’re looking to learn how to play her efficiently, now is the time. Unfortunately for you, I’ll still permaban her.
