There’s a gulf between these two sides right now, and it shows in the table. Hibernian sit twelfth, just above the drop zone with seven points from nine games, while Celtic have barely broken stride at the top with 24 points and a goal difference that reads plus eighteen. Easter Road has given Celtic trouble before, a few scrappy draws and even wins for the home side in recent seasons, but this particular Hibernian squad looks short on confidence and short on goals. Honestly, we think the visitors arrive in ominous form, having scored seven past Hearts earlier this month, and that kind of ruthlessness against a struggling Hibernian backline is worth paying attention to.
Keep an eye on Camilo Duran up front for Celtic. He’s netted three times in his last five appearances and has racked up 13 shots in that span, more than any other Celtic attacker. On the other side, Martin Boyle remains Hibernian’s biggest creative outlet, still getting forward and putting in crosses even as results around him have soured.
Hot stat: Celtic have scored 11 goals across their last five matches while Hibernian have managed just one. That’s not a small gap, that’s a chasm, and it tells you almost everything about where these two clubs stand heading into Saturday.

Hibernian vs Celtic prediction
We’re leaning Celtic to win and cover comfortably here. The bookmakers already have them at roughly 58% implied probability, and the underlying numbers back that up even more than the odds suggest. Celtic have put up 65 shots across their last five games compared to Hibernian’s 30, and their pass accuracy and corner numbers dwarf what the home side can produce. Celtic win combined with over 2.5 goals feels like the shape of this match, honestly, unless Hibernian park the bus completely and get a bit lucky.
Style-wise this is a mismatch too. Hibernian have committed 19 fouls and picked up three yellows in their last five, which is relatively tame, but it hints at a team that isn’t pressing high or winning the ball back aggressively. Celtic, by contrast, have 40 interceptions over the same stretch against Hibernian’s 10, a number that screams control of midfield. Add in Celtic’s 2018 completed pass volume versus Hibernian’s 813, and you get a picture of a Celtic side that will dominate the ball for long stretches, forcing Hibernian into deeper defending and more desperate tackling as the game wears on.

Team Analysis
Hibernian’s form graph is heading the wrong way. Their last outing was a 1-2 home defeat to Falkirk, a result that continued a run with zero wins in their last three matches overall (one draw, two losses). Before that it was a 0-1 loss to Dundee United, a 1-1 draw away at Aberdeen, and another 0-1 defeat to Kilmarnock, sandwiched around a rare bright spot, a 3-0 win over Ross County. The pattern is pretty clear though, scrappy, low-scoring games where Hibernian struggle to create much and often concede first. Nine goals in nine league matches this season tells its own story.
Celtic’s recent run is more mixed on paper but far more reassuring underneath. Their last match was a 1-2 loss away to Celta Vigo in continental competition, following wins over Hearts (7-1, an absolute demolition) and Motherwell (2-0), with a heavy 1-4 defeat to Benfica and a tight 0-1 loss to Rangers mixed in as well. Domestically, though, Celtic have barely dropped a point, and that Hearts scoreline shows what they’re capable of against Scottish Premiership opposition. In our preview of Celtic vs Celta Vigo we backed a Celtic home win at 2-1, and the 1-2 final score went against that call, even though the over 2.5 goals and BTTS parts of that verdict did land. Against a Hibernian side missing goals this badly, we’d expect Celtic to bounce back domestically regardless of that European blip.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Celtic the favourite
- Moneyline Hibernian 4.50 | Celtic 1.57
- Draw 4.33
Those odds are basically unanimous across the market, hovering between 4.40 and 4.94 on Hibernian and tight around 1.56-1.65 on Celtic no matter which bookmaker you check. That kind of agreement across so many books usually means the market has this one figured out pretty well. We don’t see much value backing the draw either, Hibernian’s home form this season (two wins, one draw, six losses) doesn’t give much reason to think they’ll hold Celtic at Easter Road.
Possible Starting Lineups
Hibernian possible starting eleven

- GK: Raphael Sallinger
- DF: Jack Iredale, Jason Kerr, Grant Hanley, A. Major
- MF: Josh Mulligan, Marko Ivezic, Martin Boyle, Felix Passlack, Nicky Cadden
- FW: Thibault Klidjé
Reedijk will likely stick with the 4-2-3-1 that’s been used in each of the last five matches. Mulligan and Ivezic sit as the double pivot, both logging heavy minutes and interception numbers, while Boyle and Passlack provide the width and creativity further forward. Klidjé leads the line alone up top, though Owen Elding, who scored off the bench recently, could easily come on to change things if Hibernian need a goal late.
Celtic possible starting eleven

- GK: Viljami Sinisalo
- DF: Dane Murray, Liam Scales, Kieran Tierney, Colby Donovan
- MF: Callum McGregor, Mika Baur, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Camilo Duran, Kasper Hogh
- FW: Benjamin Nygren
O’Neill’s side has stuck with largely the same spine in their last five games, and there’s little reason to change it against a Hibernian side this low on confidence. McGregor and Baur control the tempo from deep, Duran and Nygren have combined for six goals between them recently, and Tierney’s returned to a leadership role at the back. Expect Celtic to dominate possession from the first whistle.

The Verdict
We’re going with Celtic to win this one, and comfortably. The gap in quality is too wide right now, Hibernian are scraping by with one of the worst attacking records in the league while Celtic have put up video-game numbers against anyone domestic. Our staff lean Celtic 3-0, with the goals arriving in the second half once Hibernian’s legs and shape start to go. Corners should run high too given how much territory Celtic are likely to dominate, we’d back the over on that market alongside the win.
