Marc Guehi to leave Crystal Palace next year, Glasner confirms

Marc Guehi has told Crystal Palace he will not sign a new contract and will leave the club next year, manager Oliver Glasner said.

The 25-year-old England defender and club captain has one season left on his current deal, which runs until the end of the campaign. Palace offered Guehi fresh terms but Glasner says the player wants a different path.

“They offered Marc a new contract, but he said, ‘No, I want to make something different’, and that’s normal,” Glasner said.

Palace now face a choice: try to sell Guehi during the January transfer window or risk losing him on a free transfer next summer. Glasner stressed talks are ongoing about the best way forward.

“It’s how we can deal with this situation. (What) is the best way to get this next step done? And that’s all about how we are talking together.”

Guehi arrived from Chelsea in 2021 and has made 167 appearances for Palace. This season he has started all 12 matches in all competitions, helping the side to sixth in the Premier League.

The defender was close to joining Liverpool in the summer. He passed a medical and a £35m move looked set to go through, but Palace pulled out on transfer deadline day after their bid to sign Brighton defender Igor Julio as a replacement collapsed.

Reports say Palace would like to cash in on Guehi in January. Interested clubs mentioned in the media include Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Guehi won his 26th cap for England in the 3-0 friendly win over Wales and said there was “definitely an opportunity” to make the squad for the 2026 World Cup even if he stays at Palace for the rest of the season.
