Speaking to ESPN after Feyenoord‘s 1-1 draw with AZ Alkmaar, Read said:
“It’s no secret that clubs are keeping an eye on me and that a move could be on the cards this summer. I don’t want to keep that a secret either. I have not made up my mind yet, and I am still under contract with Feyenoord. It could well have been my last home game, but I do not want to say that too soon.”
According to Sky, talks between Read‘s camp and Bayern Munich have stalled over the transfer fee. Feyenoord are holding out for around 30 million euros, a significant ask for a teenager whose injury record gives the Bavarians reason to hesitate. A persistent thigh problem has kept him sidelined since late November, with only a substitute appearance against Alkmaar to show for his recent involvement.
Manchester City Enter the Race
Read has demonstrated he can operate at a high level. Across 53 Eredivisie appearances, he has recorded 16 direct contributions — five goals and eleven assists — while also gaining exposure in the Champions League and Europa League. As a modern, attack-minded full-back, he addresses a position Bayern still need to strengthen.
As both Bild and Sky Sports have reported, Manchester City have entered the picture. The Sky Blues are monitoring Read closely in the final weeks of the season and are weighing a move. Should City push hard, his price will climb, particularly given that he remains under contract in Rotterdam until 2029. Liverpool had been linked previously but stepped back during the winter window.
