Manchester United Women have landed a major coup ahead of the 2025/26 season: Swedish star Fridolina Rolfö has signed a two-year contract following her departure from European giants Barcelona.

The 31-year-old brings world-class experience and a trophy-laden CV to the Women’s Super League, as United look to elevate their domestic and European ambitions. Her signing was officially announced today by the club.

“I’m really excited to join Manchester United”

Rolfö told club media.

“Not just because of the size of the club and its history, but to be a part of the project with this women’s team.”

From Camp Nou to Carrington: What United Are Getting

Rolfö exits Barcelona after four years, where she collected four Liga F titles, three Copa de la Reina trophies, and two UEFA Women’s Champions League victories. In 129 appearances, she netted 38 goals — a solid return for a player known as much for her tactical discipline and versatility as for end product.

Manchester United’s Director of Women’s Football, Matt Johnson, highlighted the magnitude of the signing: “Fridolina is one of the most talented and successful players in the women’s game. She brings quality, experience, and a winning mentality built on over 20 major honours.”

Sweden Veteran with Big-Stage Pedigree

Internationally, Rolfö has been a cornerstone for Blågult. Despite being limited by a foot injury, she earned her 100th cap during UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 in Switzerland. Sweden reached the quarter-finals before bowing out to eventual champions England.

Her recovery and return to form could prove pivotal as United aim for a top-four finish and UEFA Champions League qualification.

WSL Debut Incoming

Having previously played for Linköping, Bayern Munich, and Wolfsburg, this marks Rolfö’s first foray into the WSL — a league she describes as “probably the strongest in the world right now.”

“That was a big part of the appeal”

she added.

“And the chance to help United become a Champions League regular is something I’m really excited about.”

The WSL kicks off on 5th September, with United hosting Leicester City on 7th September. All eyes will be on whether Rolfö starts — and if she can make an immediate impact.
