Everton Signs USMNT Star Folarin Balogun from Monaco in $52.3 Million Transfer

Folarin Balogun is leaving Monaco for Everton in a deal worth approximately €45 million ($52.3 million USD), with up to €5 million ($5.8 million) in add-ons, according to soccer insider Fabrizio Romano.

Balogun has agreed to a four-year contract with a one-year option. He is cleared to travel and will complete a medical before the transfer is finalized. The move lands just ahead of the Premier League’s summer transfer window closing on Tuesday, with Everton moving to strengthen their attack. In a related move, Everton also secured Manchester City‘s Jack Grealish on loan for another season.

Monaco saw a strong individual campaign from Balogun last season — 13 goals and four assists across the year, including nine goals in the final 12 regular-season matches. Despite that run of form, Monaco finished seventh in Ligue 1. Balogun closed the season fourth in the league’s individual scoring chart.

His club performances were backed by a breakout showing at the USMNT’s World Cup this summer. Balogun scored three goals across the tournament, contributing to the U.S.’s largest World Cup win and their first knockout-stage victory in over two decades. His final appearance in the knockout round was clouded by a red card controversy, but his overall impact on the campaign was clear.

The transfer marks a return to England for the 25-year-old forward, who was raised in London and developed at Arsenal‘s academy before starting his senior career with the Gunners. He moved to France in 2023. His U.S. eligibility comes from his birth in New York City, after his mother was unable to return to England due to being too far along in her pregnancy.

Balogun joins a wave of USMNT players earning major transfers off the back of the 2026 World Cup. Midfielder Sebastian Berhalter, who featured in all five U.S. matches after emerging as an unlikely starter, moved from the Vancouver Whitecaps to Championship side Middlesbrough in July. Defender Max Arfsten followed a week later.
