Jackson County prosecutors have charged two men in connection with the theft of £13,500 worth of equipment from the England squad’s transport operation during their World Cup 2026 preparations in the United States. The suspects, identified as Mustafa Salik and Erfan Kamal, were drivers employed by the trucking company responsible for moving the squad’s gear from Florida to Kansas City.

Two Drivers Charged Following Security Breach at England Camp
Missouri authorities moved quickly after a transport vehicle was targeted while carrying the Three Lions’ equipment. Both Salik and Kamal face charges of receiving stolen property, a class D felony, according to reporting by KSHB. Jackson County prosecutor Melesa Johnson confirmed the charges, stating:
“Jackson County will not tolerate any criminal activity that targets World Cup visitors, including the international teams that have travelled here to compete. We thank the Kansas City Police Department and our on-call attorneys for their quick work investigating this incident and filing charges immediately. Our office is committed to holding these individuals accountable.”
Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas also praised the outcome of an investigation that crossed several states.
Full Inventory of the $18,000 Haul Confirmed
The theft initially raised fears of a logistical crisis, with match boots belonging to Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham reported among the missing items. Court documents, as detailed by the BBC, have since confirmed the complete list of stolen goods valued at $18,000 (£13,500). The inventory included three signed jerseys at $5,000 each, four pairs of boots, five pairs of shoes, a World Cup ball, goalie gloves, and navy-coloured training shirts and shorts.
Among the more unusual items taken were two stuffed lions — the squad’s traditional mascots — a Lego set of a Nike Air shoe, and a JBL speaker. The majority of the stolen goods have since been recovered and returned to the team’s base at Swope Soccer Village.
England Players Largely Undisturbed by the Incident
Newcastle defender Dan Burn offered a measured response when asked about the situation, making clear the players were unaware of the theft until media reports surfaced.
“I’ve not lost anything personally, we found out from you guys [the media]. It’s with the police now so not sure how much I can comment. It’s not really been spoken about, so that just shows for us that they aren’t too worried about it — it’s not really disrupted our preparations.”
The Football Association reinforced that position, confirming the incident would have no effect on the squad’s readiness for their opening fixture.
England Set for Group L Opener Against Croatia
