Newcastle United host Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League at St James’ Park on Saturday at 3pm. Manager Eddie Howe has provided a positive update on Anthony Gordon‘s availability after the winger returned to training following a hip injury.

Gordon missed Newcastle’s last two matches but participated in a full session on Wednesday ahead of the Brighton fixture. Howe confirmed the striker’s progression during his pre-match media duties.

Gordon Injury Status

“Yeah, he did a session on Wednesday, part of the session on Wednesday,” Howe said. “Great to see him back and on the pitch. He’s obviously a player of huge quality and one that we’ve missed. We’ll make an assessment on his fitness closer to the game.”

The return of Newcastle‘s top scorer would provide a significant boost to their campaign. The club sits 14th in the Premier League table, eight points above the relegation zone with four matches remaining.

Team News

Fabian Schar, Tino Livramento, and Emil Krafth remain sidelined through injury. Joelinton returns from a two-match suspension and will be available for selection.

Newcastle trail Brighton by eight points in sixth place. A victory would strengthen their position and provide cushion from the relegation battle.

Brighton Challenge Ahead

Howe acknowledged the difficult fixture ahead. “We’ve had some tough defeats against them recently. I think they’ve all been pretty tight games, but they’ve fallen the wrong way for us. So, yeah, I don’t think we can look back.”

The manager emphasized the need to move forward rather than dwell on past results. “You can look back at the games, obviously, from a tactical viewpoint, but in terms of the feeling, we need to look forward. And we need to use those past disappointments to spur us in this game.”
