Crystal Palace are bracing for renewed Liverpool interest in Ismaila Sarr this January, and the Eagles have no intention of letting their star forward leave on the cheap after blocking his summer exit.
The Senegal international arrived at a crossroads last summer when a move to Anfield appeared close to completion. Sarr had just wrapped up a career-best campaign at Selhurst Park, finishing as Crystal Palace‘s top scorer across all competitions with 21 goals. That form made him a prime target, but the deal collapsed before the window closed.
Palace boss Pierre Sage has worked to reintegrate Sarr into his setup despite the winger’s known desire to move on. The transition hasn’t been smooth for the French coach, with the squad struggling to find consistent results under his guidance this season.
Liverpool haven’t abandoned their pursuit. The Merseyside club remain fixed on a £40M valuation for the 28-year-old, a figure Palace view as insufficient given his output and contract situation.
Palace Moving to Secure Sarr’s Future
Rather than wait for Liverpool to raise their bid, Palace are taking matters into their own hands. The club have entered extension talks with Sarr in recent weeks, offering a salary increase alongside a deal that would run from 2029 through to 2031.
That extension would significantly strengthen Palace’s negotiating position. A player locked into a longer contract commands a higher fee, and Palace know Liverpool’s current £40M offer falls well short of what they’d demand for a forward of Sarr’s caliber.
What This Means for January
Sage’s side have shown no willingness to budge on their valuation, and the summer saga suggests this standoff could repeat itself. Liverpool will need to come back with a substantially improved package if they want to convince Palace to sanction a sale mid-season.
For now, the priority inside Selhurst Park is clear: tie Sarr down, stabilize the squad under Sage, and force any suitor to pay full price for one of the Premier League’s most productive wide players.
