Cameroon arrive with more shots, more passes, more everything from their last five outings, and honestly, that gap rarely closes overnight in a qualifier like this.
Bryan Mbeumo is the name Congo’s defenders will be worrying about most. He scored, fired five shots and completed nearly all his passes in Cameroon’s last outing, the kind of all-around output that wins qualifiers on its own. On the other side, Janard Mbemba stands out for Congo, a defender who’s actually shown up in the numbers with an interception and a free kick effort in his last match, one of the few positives from a difficult run.

Congo vs Cameroon prediction
We’re leaning Cameroon here, and not by a small margin. Bookmakers price them around 65% to win this one and the underlying numbers back that up completely. Congo have won just one of their last fifteen matches by our count, mostly draws and losses stacking up, while Cameroon have been winning at a much healthier clip lately, eight wins in their last fifteen. The value, we think, sits less in the straight win and more in how comfortably it happens.
Style-wise this should be a mismatch of possession too. Cameroon’s passing volume dwarfs Congo’s (549 attempts to 298 in the aggregated last-five data), and their shape in a 5-3-2 gives them defensive solidity to sit on a lead if they get one early. Congo’s 3-4-2-1 is more adventurous on paper but leaves gaps that a side of Cameroon’s quality should exploit repeatedly down the flanks. Congo’s recent record makes for grim reading. Le Roy’s side lost 0-1 away at Namibia in their opening qualifier, a result that continued a rough stretch stretching back through defeats to Morocco and Niger, plus a scrappy 1-1 draw against Tanzania. In our preview of Namibia vs Congo we backed the hosts to win while also expecting Congo to find the net, and the 0-1 final score got the Namibia win right but left us wrong on the goals at both ends, since Congo never broke through. That defensive fragility combined with an attack that’s misfiring badly, zero goals in the last five-match sample, is exactly the kind of pattern that worries us heading into a game against far stronger opposition.
Cameroon, meanwhile, look like a team building momentum at just the right time. Their 3-1 win over Comoros to open the qualifiers showed goals coming from different areas, Danny Namaso with a goal and an assist, David Roi Nyengue also getting on the scoresheet. Before that they’d beaten China 2-0 and lost narrowly to Australia, mixed results against varied opposition but generally trending upward. In our preview of Cameroon vs Comoros we called for a comfortable Cameroon win with goals flowing and a clean sheet at the back given Comoros’ defensive issues, and the 3-1 scoreline delivered almost exactly that, save for the one goal conceded. Confidence should be high walking into Bergen… or wherever this actually gets played.
