Stamford Bridge gets its biggest test of the season so far when Chelsea welcome Tottenham across London on a Saturday evening. Xabi Alonso’s side sit fourth in the table and have won back to back games, while Roberto De Zerbi’s Spurs arrive in fifteenth place, a position nobody at the club expected after seven rounds. There is an odd wrinkle here too: these two clubs have met five times across competitions in the past year and a half, and four of those five games were decided by a single goal. The form books point one way, but recent history between these two sides suggests nothing is ever straightforward.
Cole Palmer remains the player Chelsea fans look to first. He has a goal and an assist in his last two outings and keeps drawing fouls in dangerous areas. On the other side, Dominic Solanke has been Tottenham’s most reliable source of goals this season and will need a big performance if Spurs are to leave west London with anything.
Hot stat: Chelsea have scored six goals in a single Premier League fixture this season, hammering Leeds 6-3 just weeks ago, a scoreline that tells you everything about how open this Alonso side can be at both ends.

Chelsea vs Tottenham prediction
We predict a Chelsea win here, and the bookmakers agree with odds hovering around 1.77 for the hosts. Chelsea have won their last two matches comfortably and sit above Spurs by nine points despite both sides playing the same number of games. Tottenham have won just once in their last seven across all competitions, and that draw against Coventry papers over a defense that has shipped goals at an alarming rate all season.
Style-wise, Chelsea complete around 84% of their passes compared to Tottenham’s slightly higher 87%, but Spurs commit far more fouls per match (31 versus 22 over the last five games) and have already picked up a red card in that stretch. That discipline gap, paired with Chelsea’s sharper finishing, tilts things firmly toward the hosts. Expect Chelsea to control possession in deeper areas while Spurs look to break on the counter, a plan that has not worked often enough this season.

Team Analysis
Chelsea arrive unbeaten in their last five, winning four of them, and their most recent outing was a tidy 2-0 win over Everton. That game was far from a formality though; Everton’s organized defense made Chelsea work for every chance before Alonso’s side found a breakthrough in each half. In our preview of Everton vs Chelsea we backed a narrow Chelsea win with goals at both ends, and while the three points arrived as predicted, Everton never found the net, so the BTTS portion of that call missed the mark. The pattern of Chelsea grinding out results rather than cruising continues to hold.
Tottenham’s last match was a 3-1 home win over Coventry, a result that briefly steadied the ship after a rough run. Solanke and the midfield looked sharper that night, but the three points came against a side sitting near the relegation zone, and questions remain about how Spurs cope with stronger opposition. In our preview of Tottenham vs Coventry we called a home win with goals from both sides, and the eventual 3-1 scoreline backed that read up nicely. Carrying that form into a trip to Stamford Bridge is a much taller order, however.
That friendly defeat aside, three of the last four competitive meetings between these two were separated by a single goal, and Chelsea have won two of the last three in league play. These fixtures rarely turn into blowouts regardless of league position.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Chelsea the favourite
- Moneyline Chelsea 1.77 | Tottenham 3.80
- Draw 3.90
Bookmakers give Chelsea roughly a 53% implied chance of victory, with the draw and Tottenham win splitting the rest fairly evenly. That lines up with the underlying numbers: Chelsea’s goal difference of plus four dwarfs Tottenham’s minus four, and the home side has scored in every match this season bar one. Backing the favourite at odds near 1.77 looks sound given how comfortably Chelsea have handled mid-table and lower sides recently.
Possible Starting Lineups
Chelsea possible starting eleven
- GK: Emiliano Martínez
- DF: Levi Colwill, Josh Acheampong, Maxence Lacroix, Jorrel Hato
- MF: Jordan Henderson, Moises Caicedo
- FW: Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers, Pedro Neto, João Pedro
Alonso sticks with the 4-2-3-1 that has carried Chelsea through their recent winning run. Caicedo and Henderson shield the back four while Palmer operates just behind João Pedro, who leads the line after a productive recent stretch. Neto’s pace out wide gives Chelsea an outlet against a Spurs defense that struggles with recovery runs.
Tottenham possible starting eleven
- GK: Antonin Kinsky
- DF: Micky van de Ven, Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi, Tosin Adarabioyo
- MF: Archie Gray, Sandro Tonali
- FW: James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus, Omar Marmoush, Dominic Solanke
De Zerbi mirrors Chelsea’s shape with his own 4-2-3-1. Tonali and Gray sit in front of the back four to offer some defensive cover, while Maddison pulls the strings behind Solanke. Kudus and Marmoush provide width, though both will need to track back more diligently than they have in recent weeks if Spurs hope to stay compact.

TipsGG Match Prediction
We predict Chelsea to win this one, and probably by more than a single goal. Their recent scoring numbers, five goals against Bournemouth and six against Leeds, show a side capable of putting weaker defenses to the sword, and Tottenham’s backline has conceded in almost every match this season. Perhaps the cleanest read is Chelsea winning 3-1 or 2-1, with both teams finding the net given Spurs have scored in four of their last five outings. To be honest, Tottenham’s away form offers little reason for optimism, and unless De Zerbi tightens things up quickly, this fixture could get uncomfortable for the visitors inside the first half hour.
