The wait is almost over. On Thursday 27 August, the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco stages the 2026/27 Champions League league-phase draw, and 36 clubs discover the eight opponents standing between them and the knockout rounds. The field was completed on Wednesday night, so for the first time this summer a Champions League draw simulator can run on the real thing: the confirmed 36, in their confirmed pots. Simulators replicate UEFA’s algorithm, restrictions and all, letting supporters generate a plausible fixture list for their club in a single click.
When Is the 2026/27 Champions League Draw? Date, Time and Venue
The league-phase draw begins at 18:00 CET on Thursday 27 August 2026 in Monaco, immediately after the play-off round wraps up. It features 29 automatic qualifiers and seven play-off winners, and it is the last major administrative hurdle before the football starts: Matchday 1 lands on 8–10 September, with the eighth and final round on 27 January 2027. The road ends at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid on 5 June 2027.
That compressed timeline is exactly why simulators spike in traffic this week. Less than a day separates the final qualifier from the ceremony.
How the Champions League Draw Simulator Works in Three Steps
Free tools like drawsimulator.com run the same logic UEFA’s draw software does. Three steps and you have a fixture list:
- Pick your club. Choose any of the 36 sides — Manchester City from Pot 1, or a debutant from Pot 4.
- Run the draw. The tool assigns eight opponents, two from each pot, using an unbiased Fisher-Yates shuffle that respects UEFA’s seeding and country-protection rules.
- Read the fixture list. You get four home ties and four away ties, laid out exactly as the real bracket will be — Liverpool away to Napoli, home to Bayern, and so on. Most simulators let you download the result as an image or push it straight to social media.
The output is not a prediction. It is one valid draw out of millions, which is the point: run it twenty times and you learn far more about the shape of your club’s likely campaign than any single simulation can tell you.
2026/27 Champions League Pots: All Four Confirmed
Pots are set by UEFA club coefficient, with the reigning champions seeded first. Paris Saint-Germain, chasing a third consecutive title, head Pot 1. Manchester United and Europa League winners Aston Villa — both back among Europe’s elite — sit in Pot 2. The seven play-off winners filled the last places at the bottom, Bodø/Glimt and Fenerbahçe earning Pot 3 on coefficient and the other five dropping into Pot 4.

Why Some Simulators Are Already Wrong
This is the single biggest caveat when using any Champions League draw simulator this week: many tools were built on projected bottom pots and have not been refreshed since the play-offs finished.
Several still list Celtic, Red Star Belgrade, Dinamo Zagreb or Lyon in Pot 3 or Pot 4. None of them is in the competition. Celtic were dismantled in Linz on Tuesday, surrendering a 3-0 first-leg lead as LASK won 5-1 after extra time to take the tie 5-4 on aggregate and reach a maiden league phase. In Baku, Sabah overturned a first-leg deficit to beat Hapoel Beer-Sheva 5-2 after extra time — 6-4 on aggregate — becoming only the second Azerbaijani club ever to reach the competition proper. Bodø/Glimt made it three qualifiers on the night, brushing aside N.E.C. 3-0 for a 6-1 aggregate win.
Wednesday settled the last four, each of them level from the first leg:

The marquee tie went the way of Istanbul: Fenerbahçe knocked out Lyon, taking a second Turkish place in the draw alongside Galatasaray and keeping France on three entrants. Every beaten play-off side drops into the Europa League league phase.
Before you trust a simulation, check the tool’s Pot 4 against the table above. If Celtic or Dinamo Zagreb are still selectable, the fixture list it spits out is fiction.
Swiss Model Explained: 36 Teams, Eight Games, One Table
Since 2024/25 there are no groups. All 36 clubs occupy a single table and play eight matches against eight different opponents — two from each pot, four at home, four away — with every result feeding the same standings.
- 1st–8th: straight through to the round of 16
- 9th–24th: a two-legged knockout play-off for the remaining eight places
- 25th–36th: eliminated from Europe entirely, with no parachute into the Europa League
That last line is what makes the draw so consequential. Under the old format, a bad group meant a Thursday-night reprieve. Now it means nothing at all.
The Draw Rules Every Simulation Has to Respect
A credible simulator is only as good as the constraints it enforces. Three matter most:
- No domestic pairings. Clubs from the same association cannot be drawn together.
- A two-club country cap. No side can face more than two teams from any single other nation.
- No three-peat fixtures. UEFA has ruled that the same fixture cannot be staged with the same home team for three consecutive seasons. In practice, that means Liverpool cannot host Real Madrid at Anfield on Thursday, having done so in each of the last two campaigns.
The knock-on effects are sharper than they look. Because Arsenal cannot be paired with Liverpool or Manchester City, their two Pot 1 opponents must come from PSG, Bayern, Real Madrid, Inter, Barcelona or Atlético. There is no soft landing available.
The confirmed pots tighten a few other clubs’ odds in the same way. Spain and England field five apiece and Germany and Italy four, so the Spanish and English sides lose several potential opponents outright — while the seven single-club nations in Pot 3 and Pot 4 face no domestic block at all and can be drawn against anyone.
What the Draw Means for Champions League Odds
Bookmakers reprice within minutes of the final ball. A Pot 1 side handed Dortmund and Napoli alongside two Pot 4 debutants is suddenly a far more attractive outright bet than one drawn into a bracket stacked with Bayern, Roma and Leipzig. Draw difficulty feeds directly into top-eight markets, qualification specials and matchday pricing across all eight rounds.
