Bournemouth are growing increasingly confident about keeping Alex Scott at the club beyond 2027, preparing a record contract offer designed to keep the England midfielder out of reach of Chelsea.
European Breakthrough Strengthens Bournemouth’s Hand
Bournemouth secured their first-ever European qualification at the end of the 2025/26 season under former boss Andoni Iraola. That achievement gave the club the leverage to reject several transfer bids for Scott over the summer window, a rare position of strength for a side of their size.
Contract Standoff Drags On
Scott remains under contract at Bournemouth until 2028, but the 23-year-old has so far opted against opening extension talks. The club remain hopeful they can convince him to commit his future, though the picture is complicated by suitors already circling. Both Chelsea and Iraola’s Liverpool are reportedly closing in on the former Bristol City playmaker, with Chelsea rumoured to be ready to pay in excess of £100 million to land him.
Bournemouth are pragmatic about their long-term chances of holding onto a player attracting that kind of valuation. The club knows a wage package alone won’t guarantee his signature, but it remains their strongest card.
Foley Confirms Record Pay Rise
Club owner Bill Foley has confirmed Bournemouth are making renewed attempts to restart contract talks with Scott. The proposal on the table would make him the highest-paid player in the club’s history, lifting his wages from £50,000 a week to around £140,000.
That near-tripling of salary signals how seriously the Cherries view the threat of losing their standout midfielder for nothing once his deal edges closer to expiry. Whether it’s enough to beat off Chelsea’s financial muscle remains the question hanging over the Vitality Stadium this season.
