Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has responded publicly to reports linking the club with a move for Erling Haaland, with the Norwegian striker floated as a potential long-term successor to Harry Kane.
Kane turns 34 next summer, and reports connecting him with a switch to the United States have fueled talk that his time at the Allianz Arena could be nearing its end. Comments relayed by Sport Witness and Sport1 confirm that Bayern Munich have addressed the possibility of bringing Manchester City‘s star forward to Bavaria as a direct replacement in the coming years.
Hainer Addresses Haaland Transfer Talk
City await a verdict on their punishment for over 100 breaches of the Premier League’s financial regulations, a case spanning almost a decade. The uncertainty has left the futures of several of the club’s biggest names up in the air. A banner held up by Liverpool supporters mocking City’s financial situation during a recent fixture underlined the scrutiny surrounding the Premier League champions.
Bayern have tracked Haaland for years. FourFourTwo reports that the Bundesliga champions were serious suitors the previous two times the striker changed clubs, positioning them as genuine contenders should he ever leave the Etihad.
BILD TV asked Hainer directly about adding Haaland to Vincent Kompany’s attack over the weekend. The Bayern president played down any immediate interest while praising his current frontline.
“With Michael Olise, Harry Kane, and Luis Diaz, we have an excellent attack,” Hainer said. “We scored over 100 goals last season and are very well positioned offensively.”
“If we were talking about a timeframe in a few years, we would reassess the situation.”
City’s Financial Charges Cloud Haaland’s Future
The 72-year-old former Adidas CEO referenced the charges facing City but stopped short of speculating on how the league might rule against the six-time champions.
“I don’t know the details and have no insider knowledge,” Hainer said. “That’s why I don’t want to speculate about it.”
“The fact is: if that’s what happened, consequences must be drawn.”
City’s form on the pitch has added further pressure this season, with a recent defeat to Manchester United leaving manager Enzo Maresca under scrutiny alongside the ongoing off-field case.
Kane Contract Talks Continue at Bayern
Kane’s current deal expires next summer, and FourFourTwo understands Bayern are working on an extension to keep the England captain in Munich beyond that point.
Haaland is valued at €220 million according to Transfermarkt. City turn their attention back to European competition this week, facing Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
