Aston Villa could land a long-standing midfield target in January after Galatasaray signalled a willingness to listen to offers for Gabriel Sara, a shift that hands Unai Emery a genuine opportunity to strengthen his squad midway through the season.

The Brazilian has drawn interest from several Premier League clubs since leaving Norwich City in 2024, and Aston Villa are among the sides monitoring his situation closely. With Galatasaray now open to negotiating a sale, Villa’s pursuit of a player they have tracked for some time looks more realistic heading into the winter window.

Aston Villa Among the Clubs Interested in Gabriel Sara

Reports in Brazil, relayed via Sport Witness, indicate that Newcastle United, Everton and Brighton & Hove Albion are also tracking Sara alongside Villa ahead of January.

The 27-year-old spent two seasons at Carrow Road, where he established himself as one of the Championship’s standout midfielders before his move to Galatasaray in 2024.

His form in Turkey has continued to generate interest beyond the Premier League. Napoli and AS Roma are reportedly keeping in contact with his representatives as well.

Galatasaray resisted selling Sara during the summer window, a period when Villa were actively seeking a replacement for the departed Youri Tielemans. Their position has since softened.

The Turkish champions are said to be prepared to negotiate offers starting at €40m (£33m), though reports from Turkey suggest a fee closer to €35m (£30m) might be enough to get a deal done.

There is no certainty that Villa or any other interested club will meet Galatasaray’s valuation, but the club’s willingness to even discuss a sale marks a meaningful shift from their summer stance.

How Much Would Gabriel Sara Cost Villa in January?

A £33m asking price would represent a significant mid-season outlay for Villa. A figure closer to £30m would make the move considerably more appealing financially.

Emery needs greater depth in central midfield, where added quality and competition for places could prove valuable across the second half of the campaign.

Sara’s prior Championship experience means he already has a grasp of English football, while his progress in Turkey suggests he could return to the Premier League as a sharper, more rounded midfielder.

At 27, he offers a blend of experience and remaining longevity rather than functioning purely as a long-term project signing.

Villa face stiff competition from Newcastle and Everton for his signature, but Galatasaray’s change in stance gives Emery a real chance to revisit a player he has admired for some time.

Should the price drop closer to the lower end of Galatasaray’s demands, Sara could prove a smart January addition for a Villa side aiming to stay competitive on multiple fronts this season.
