Aston Villa Target Barcelona Full-Back Balde
Aston Villa are preparing a substantial offer for Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde, with plans to submit a £43m bid when the transfer window opens. The move represents a significant escalation in pursuit of the 22-year-old Spanish international, who has emerged as a target for multiple Premier League clubs.
Interest in Balde intensified in late March when Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Manchester United all made initial enquiries about the defender. At that time, the left-back showed no desire to leave Barcelona. The situation has shifted dramatically, however, as Barcelona’s sporting leadership has begun entertaining offers for Balde provided they meet specific financial thresholds.
Balde’s Diminished Role at Barcelona
Balde has featured in 36 appearances for Barcelona this season under Hansi Flick, with 29 of those outings as a starter. His recent form has declined, and two muscle injuries have sidelined him for ten matches. This downturn has prompted Barcelona to reconsider his future at the club.
The arrival of Joao Cancelo in January has accelerated Balde’s decline in the pecking order. Cancelo has become Barcelona’s preferred left-back option for the remainder of the season and is viewed as the club’s priority signing for the summer transfer window.

Villa’s Financial Offer
Currently positioned fourth in the Premier League and within striking distance of Champions League qualification, Aston Villa are willing to invest heavily in reinforcing their defensive options. The proposed £43m offer approaches Balde’s estimated market valuation of £47m, suggesting genuine intent to conclude negotiations.
Whether this figure proves sufficient to convince Barcelona to sell remains uncertain. Balde’s willingness to depart the Catalan club for his first move abroad also presents a potential obstacle to the transfer’s completion.
