AS Roma have made a formal approach to sign 22-year-old Argentine international Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea this summer, according to reputed Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla.
The Serie A club are targeting a wide attacker in the current transfer window and have identified the Chelsea winger as their primary candidate. Pedulla reports that the Blues have received a “poll” from Roma, though Chelsea have yet to determine whether they prefer a permanent sale or a loan arrangement. Roma are willing to pursue either structure to land the player.
Garnacho’s Mixed Start at Chelsea
Garnacho joined Chelsea from Manchester United last summer in a deal worth £40 million. He made his mark at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag before a breakdown in his relationship with Ruben Amorim brought his time at the club to an end late in the 2024/25 season.
His debut campaign at Stamford Bridge has been uneven. Eight goals and four assists across 43 appearances in all competitions reflect a player with clear ability who has yet to find consistent output. His stock, despite the inconsistency, remains high enough to attract multiple suitors.

Why Roma Are Pushing Now
Roma’s need is specific. Several forwards have left the Stadio Olimpico this summer, leaving Gian Piero Gasperini with only two wingers in his squad. Uncertainty over Matias Soule’s long-term future adds further urgency to the search.
Garnacho’s pace and directness fit the profile Gasperini is looking for. Roma, aware of competition from English clubs and other Italian sides, face mounting pressure to move quickly.
