Arsenal and Newcastle United have entered a recruitment battle for Granada’s 17-year-old winger, Owen Emeka, as both Arsenal and Newcastle United plan for next year’s transfer window. The Spanish youth international has drawn attention from clubs across Europe after a breakout start to his senior career.

According to a report from journalist Matteo Moretto, AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen have also registered interest in the teenager, while Real Madrid attempted to sign him during the summer window. Emeka’s contract with Granada carries a release clause of €15 million, a figure that gives any suitor a clear path to completing a deal.

Who is Owen Emeka?

Emeka has emerged as one of the most talked about prospects in Spanish football. Born in Malaga, he progressed through the academies of Altético Benamiel, CD Tiro Pichón and 26 Febrero before Granada signed him.

His rise through Granada’s ranks has been swift. Emeka represented the club’s youth and under-19 sides before earning a place in the first-team squad. This season has marked his breakthrough, with 262 minutes logged across six La Liga 2 appearances and one goal to his name.

Real Madrid moved to sign the winger before he put pen to paper on a new Granada contract. His form since has only increased interest from clubs across the continent.

Premier League Move on the Horizon?

Arsenal’s pursuit of Emeka makes tactical sense despite Mikel Arteta already having Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke at his disposal. Saka remains the club’s first-choice right-winger, meaning Emeka would arrive as a medium-term project, developing alongside an established talent before pushing for regular minutes in future seasons.

Newcastle United face a different calculus. Jacob Murphy is approaching 30 and nearing the latter stages of his career. A new contract for the winger remains possible, but Newcastle need a long-term succession plan at wide positions, and Emeka fits that profile.

AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen carry genuine credibility as suitors too. Both clubs have histories of handing first-team minutes to emerging talent rather than leaving them to develop on loan elsewhere. Formal negotiations have yet to begin, which keeps Granada in a position of leverage for now. That control evaporates the moment a club agrees to meet the €15 million release clause.
