Andre Gomes Moves to MLS with Columbus Crew
Columbus Crew secured a veteran addition to their midfield roster just 48 hours before the start of the Major League Soccer season. The club confirmed the arrival of Andre Gomes on a free transfer from Lille. The 32 year old Portuguese international moves to Ohio after a difficult period in Ligue 1 where he struggled to secure regular minutes on the pitch.
The contract formalizes a commitment through June 2027. Columbus Crew, the 2023 MLS Cup winners, retain a further option to extend the agreement through the 2027-2028 campaign.
Elite Experience Bolsters Crew Midfield
Gomes brings a high level resume to the MLS. He earned 29 caps for Portugal and played a role in their Euro 2016 championship victory. His club career includes a La Liga title with Barcelona in the 2017-18 season. Before his brief stint in France, he spent six years in the English Premier League with Everton, where he made 100 appearances.
“Andre is a player who possesses exceptional tactical and technical abilities, displayed at the highest level of European football. Andre’s experience, leadership, and professionalism will strengthen our midfield and will have an impact across our roster,” stated general manager Issa Tall.
